The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets battled it out for most of game 1 in the Western Conference finals, but the Warriors pulled ahead in the third quarter and never looked back. Kevin Durant’s 37 points and the chemistry between the “Hamptons 5†(Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant) led the team to what seemed like an easy victory. If you’re wondering where the term Hamptons 5 came from, it refers to the group of players who were sent to the Hamptons in 2016 to convince free-agent Kevin Durant to join the team. The Supreme Court struck down the 25 year old law, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) limiting sports betting for all states except Nevada. Now that the law was declared unconstitutional, every state can determine on their own whether they allow sports betting. The state of New Jersey brought the case to the Supreme Court to allow for betting at its casinos and racetracks. The NFL plans to rely on Congress to regulate this new era for them. In a statement, they said, “Congress has long-recognized the potential harms posed by sports betting to the integrity of sporting contests and the public confidence in these events. Given that history, we intend to call on Congress again, this time to enact a core regulatory framework for legalized sports betting. We also will work closely with our clubs to ensure that any state efforts that move forward in the meantime protect our fans and the integrity of our game.”
