Goodell’s Letter To NFL, Manning Inducted Into CO HOF, Worst Loss In Men’s Soccer History, Strasburg Won’t Start

FOOTBALL

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is taking a play from NBA Commish Adam Silver’s playbook and has sent a letter stating he “wants players to stand during the anthem” and would “include such elements as an in-season platform to promote the work of our players on these core issues.”

In other NFL news, it was announced former Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will be inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Many speculate Manning could become the GM of the Browns, Titans or Rams possibly as soon as next year.

SOCCER

For the first time since 1986, the U.S. men’s soccer team won’t be playing in the World Cup. After a 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago in its final qualifier round, the US fell out of contention and will not be appearing in next year’s World Cup in Russia.  Omar Gonzalez summed up the feeling from the team and fans when he said,”We let down an entire nation today.”

BASEBALL

The Washington Nationals Stephen Strasburg has declined to start in Game 4 for a postponed National League Division Series game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. According to reports, Strasburg is “under the weather” and “wheezing during a half-mile run”, but many are disappointed wondering what in the world could keep Strasburg off the field in a due or die game for the Nationals. Dusty Baker announced Tanner Roark will start instead.
