Watson Sets Franchise Record, Cam Newton Shines, NBA Commish Adam Silver Urges Rule To Stand During Anthem

Thoughts and prayers to the victims of the deadly shootings in Las Vegas Sunday night. 


Houston Texans’ rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for four touchdowns and ran for a 5th in the best performance by a quarterback in their franchise history. With the 57-14 blowout of the Tennessee Titans, the Texans also set a franchise record for most points scored in a game.

The previously unstoppable New England Patriots now look vulnerable, especially with an underperforming defense.  In their second loss of the season, the Patriots helped the Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton shine. With three throwing touchdowns and one running TD, Newton helped the Panthers win 33-30. After the game he stated, “This was a statement game for us. Going forward, this game set the tone for the season moving forward.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a memo prior to the beginning of preseason basketball this weekend stating players “demonstrate your commitment to the NBA’s core values of equality, diversity, inclusion, serve as a unifying force in the community,” and observe the rule to stand during the anthem. Some teams locked arms this weekend before games, but all NBA teams stood for the national anthem.
