Hernandez Wins DWTS, Notre Dame Punished For Academic Misconduct

Laurie HernandezOver the summer we couldn’t get enough of Olympic gold and silver medalist Laurie Hernandez, and the judges of Dancing with the Stars felt the same way when they awarded her the winner of season 23. At 16 years old, Hernandez is the youngest competitor. In the finals, she beat out IndyCar driver James Hinchcliff and former Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (aka Megatron).

FOOTBALL

The NCAA came down hard on Notre Dame after reporting their trainer violated the misconduct policy by completing coursework for two football players. A number of other academic integrity issues were also reported. As punishment, the football team will forfeit their victories in the 2012 season (where they appeared in the BCS Championship) and in the 2013 season. Head coach Brian Kelly refused to accept any blame and stated:  “This matter has nothing to do with me and my status here. This academic piece probably strengthens what I’ve been doing relative to advocating for our student-athletes and academic support staff relative to them being successful. This obviously has been going on for a few years. The announcement that comes out today has nothing to do with a lack or additional support for Brian Kelly. Any negative criticism about me now is because we’re 4-7. It has nothing to do with what came out there today.”
