Sixers Win First Game, Georgia Fires Richt, Bama’s Smart Takes Over, Manziel Question

BASKETBALL

76ersAfter Kobe announced his retirement on Sunday, the NBA is gearing up for the Kobe Bryant farewell tour. Prices at Staples Center in LA are going through the roof as everyone wants to see Kobe play one last time.  Right now, however, Kobe is on the road. His first stop was in Philly, where it all started.  Kobe went to school at Lower Merion High School where he won a state championship.  Both the Sixers and the Lakers are having horrible seasons but the Sixers managed to pull themselves together to pick up their first win.   Philadelphia 103, LA Lakers 91.

FOOTBALL

In college football, after Georgia parted ways with their longtime coach Mark Richt, they settled on Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.  Smart is clearly a winner at Alabama, and the Bulldogs are hoping that Smart will be a strong recruiter and help the Georgia program become part of the National Playoff picture.  Success might take a few years, but the Bulldogs believe in Smart’s resume (3 National Championships at ‘Bama), and are betting he brings them back to prominence.  All is not over for Richt as he has already been contacted by many schools to join their program and some are even trying to recruit Richt to be the next Governor of Georgia.
The Cleveland Browns lost their starting quarterback Josh McCown for the season and are looking for answers at quarterback.  Their coach, Mike Pettine is silent on who will play, but many want to see Manziel again.  Manziel, however, has been relegated to the 3rd string QB, and Austin Davis is next in line.  On the other hand, playing Manziel could be a chance for the Browns to see if he has what it takes to get better or if they should cut him next year.
