Rousey Takes Down Opponent In 34 Seconds, Russell Wilson Highest Paid QB, Team World Wins In Africa

UFC

Rhonda RouseyThe main event over the weekend was out of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) — specifically the female division.   A new superstar has emerged in Ronda Rousey and sports fans were anticipating her fight against Bethe Correia.   Correia was talking a lot of trash talk before the fight, then made it personal when she took shots at Rousey’s family.   Rousey said she would teach Correia a lesson, and even wanted to fight in Correia’s home country of Brazil just to beat her in front of her home crowd.  Rousey made good on her promise, destroying Correia in just 34 seconds.  She even told her “Don’t cry” at the end of the match.  Rousey stands to make a ton of money if she can keep this up.

FOOTBALL

Russell WilsonIn the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks decided to pay up to keep their golden boy quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson signed a 4-year $87.5 million contract on Friday, making him one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL.  With that money, however, comes a huge amount of responsibility.  The Seahawks want to build up their passing game, and nothing short of Super Bowl wins will be expected by that franchise.  At least Wilson can rest easy knowing that he now has financial security, as just last year, he was one of the lowest paid QB’s in the league.

BASKETBALL

Africa hosted the first ever professional NBA basketball game in the country.  The game featured Team Africa, consisting of African-born players such as Luol Deng, Festus Ezeli and Serge Ibaka  vs. Team World, which featured Chris Paul, Bradley Beal, and Pau Gasol.  The highlight of the exhibition game came when former NBA superstar Hakeem Olajuwon checked in.  Sure, he’s now 52 years old, but he still had some moves, even giving the crowd another look at his famous “Dream Shake“.  It was a great game and Team World won out. All agreed that the exhibition was great for the continent. Team World 101, Team Africa 97.
