Dez Bryant To Get Franchise Tag

FOOTBALL

Dez BryantNFL franchise tag deadline is Monday at 4:00 pm. The big story is that the Dallas Cowboys’ will place the franchise tag on receiver Dez Bryant. When a Team places the franchise tag on a player, they are essentially stating that they can’t live without this player and they want to make sure he isn’t allowed to test the market in free agency. Bryant will receive $12.8 million (the average salary of the top 10 players at that position or 120% of his salary in 2014, whichever amount is higher) for the year with a possibility of securing a long-term contract. Even though this tag shows the Team’s commitment to a player, some athletes aren’t happy as they want to test the free market and potentially receive a big long-term contract with a new team.

In other NFL news, former Tampa Bay quarterback Josh McCown was named the quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. McCown had a miserable year with the Bucs in 2014 but he’s ready to come out strong with his new team. He stated:

“I get it,” McCown told Northeast Ohio Media Group. “I understand people’s perceptions of me.  I don’t back off it or shy away from (the 1-10 mark in 2014). I understand people’s frustration. But my mindset is to come in here, grow and improve as a football player, and help this team win football games. When I’ve been able to operate in a system that’s organized and been around for awhile like I did in 2013 with the Bears, I’ve been able to play at a high level.”
