Media Day In NFL-Sherman’s Opinion Of Goodell, Lynch Hates The Press, NBA Slam Dunk Contest

FOOTBALL

In the NFL, it was media day for both the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks.  This is a chance for every player to get up close and personal with the media and answer all types of questions — from serious to just plain fun (e.g. someone showing their favorite dance move).
Richard ShermanThe first highlight of the day was, Richard Sherman weighing in on “deflategate”.  And of course, Sherman was going to say something controversial.  Sherman said, in so many words, that if the Patriots were found guilty, that they probably wouldn’t be fined too heavily.  This is primarily because, in Sherman’s opinion, Roger Goodell is good friends with Patriots owner Robert Kraft.  Goodell was even at Kraft’s house during the AFC Championship.  Sherman opined that as long as stuff like that is happening, he doesn’t see the Patriots receiving any fines.

Marshawn LynchBut the best part of the media day was, ironically, the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch who HATES talking to the press.  Last year, he refused to talk to the media and received a heavy fine.  Lynch was fined multiple times during the year for a variety of instances.  So, at media day, Lynch was upfront and honest, answering every question with “I’m just here so I don’t get fined”.  Whatever they said, his retort was “I’m just here so I don’t get fined”.

BASKETBALL

Finally, in the NBA, we found out who the contestants would be for this year’s slam dunk contest on February 14th during the NBA All Star Weekend.   And it’s going to be a good one.  We get to see Milwaukee’s “Greek Freak”, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Minnesota’s dunking rookie Zach LaVine, the Brooklyn Nets Mason Plumlee, and 2nd year star Victor Oladipo.  The contest has been lackluster the past few seasons, save for a few awesome dunks, but hopefully this year it turns into a show of shows.  And these guys are amazing jumpers, so it’s going to be fantastic.
