Winston Declares For NFL Draft, LA May Get Rams, Mozgrov Big Trade To Cavs

FOOTBALL

Jameis WinstonThe major news out of the sports world yesterday… Florida State quarterback and Heisman Trophy Winner (2013) Jameis Winston has declared for the NFL draft.  Even though he had a lot of off-the-field issues, there is no denying Winston’s talent.  And there is a very good chance that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, needing a franchise QB, will take him with the #1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.  Winston will have a lot of question marks surrounding him coming into the NFL, and he is a big risk/reward player.

In the NFL, according to St. Louis city officials, the St. Louis Rams organization is not returning phone calls.  This could possibly mean that they don’t want to discuss the move to LA.  To add to the rumors, Rams’ offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer awkwardly took a job as the offensive coordinator at The University of Georgia.  That sounds like a step down, but perhaps Schottenheimer saw the writing on the wall and wanted to get out of there as soon as he could and land in a good spot.  LA fans may be getting their football wish.

BASKETBALL

Timofey MozgovIn the NBA, even though they’re slumping right now, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still in “Win Now” mode this season.  They have LeBron, and they only have him on a 2-year deal.  They want to do everything they can to help him win in his prime and keep him there.  So on Wednesday they traded for a big man in Timofey Mozgov from the Denver Nuggets.  The Cavs, however,  had to give up TWO first round draft picks.  That’s a hefty price to pay, but the Cavs desperately need a big man who can play some defense if they want to stand a chance this year.  Plus, Mozgov has a relationship with Cavaliers head coach David Blatt, as Blatt coached the Russian National Team in the Olympics and led them to a Bronze medal.  Big risk for the Cavs, but it could be worth it.
