WATERCOOLER CHAT: BAYLOR BEARS AND STANFORD CARDINALS HUGE WINS, ADRIAN PETERSON PULLS OUT VIKINGS WIN

FOOTBALL

In college football, there were two huge games on Thursday that would affect the BCS Picture.  First up, undefeated #6 Baylor took on their first true test in #10 Oklahoma.  Baylor is the highest scoring team in college football, but Oklahoma has a defense that could slow them down.  This game got off to a weird start, as the score was locked at an odd 5-3.  That’s a baseball score.  But then, the Baylor offense got rolling and instantly pulled away from the Sooners.  The Bears grabbed the win, and will likely move up in their quest to grab a BCS Title.  They just need a few other teams to lose first.  Baylor 41, Oklahoma 12.

Next up, it was the much anticipated battle between #3 Oregon and #5 Stanford.  Stanford has a loss in the season, and this game was arguably the last true contest on Oregon’s schedule.  If Oregon won, they would likely have a clear path to an undefeated season.  Remember though that Stanford beat Oregon last year.  Do they have the Ducks number?  Apparently they do, as the Ducks looked like a shell of themselves.  They couldn’t get anything going against Stanford’s staunch defense.  Meanwhile, Stanford played smash mouth football and pulled out to a big 26-0 lead.  But, in the 4th quarter, Oregon got a few miracles to get within one score.  Yet, in the end, Stanford recovered Oregon’s onside kick attempt, and held on for the win.  This is a huge upset, and likely kills Oregon’s chances at the BCS Bowl, but certainly makes it an interesting rest of the season for Stanford.  Stanford 26, Oregon 20.

Finally, in the NFL, it was Thursday Night Football between the Washington Redskins and the Minnesota Vikings.  Robert Griffin III and the Redskins have been playing better lately, as have the Minnesota Vikings who almost upset the Cowboys in Dallas last week.  The Redskins pulled out to a big lead, but then, in the second half, Adrian Peterson got it going for the Vikings.  And when he can move the ball, it changes the entire dynamic of the Vikings offense.  They engineered a comeback, but RG3 tried to win the game with a corner pass to Santana Moss in the end zone, but Moss was out of bounds, and the Vikings hung on for the win.  Minnesota 34, Washington 27.
