WATERCOOLER CHAT: THUNDER ROAR, LINCECUM SLUMP, AUBURN KILLER FOUND

BASKETBALL

In the NBA, it was Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder.  This is the game we’ve all been waiting for:  LeBron going after his first ring, Durant trying to establish himself as the best player in the NBA, the Big 3 hoping to avoid a second straight Finals loss… the storylines were endless.  But now it was time to actually settle it on the court.  It started out with the Heat playing like they were going to absolutely torch the Thunder.  They were draining threes and built up a 13-point lead.  It looked like they were going to run away with it, but then, in the second half, the Thunder came roaring back (as they always do) behind a 36 point night from Kevin Durant.  Wow!  And once the Thunder got the lead, there was no looking back.  They take Game 1.  However, this series is far from over.  OKC 105, Miami 94.

BASEBALL

And in baseball, San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum was just recently one of the hottest superstar pitchers in the game.  He was instrumental to their 2010 World Series run.  But this season, Lincecum has been absolutely dreadful.  It’s actually… very strange.  Now the Giants aren’t sure what to do with him.  It’s as if suddenly, overnight, Lincecum turned into a bad pitcher.  And in pitching, a lot of this is mental.  After all, it’s very difficult to stand on that mound in front of all those people and keep your composure.  He’s probably very rattled. Now, it looks like the Giants are thinking of putting Lincecum into the bullpen.  That would be a huge blow to his confidence, and even worse, could be irreversible.  He may never return to greatness if they do that.  No… the Giants may have to ride this one out, and hope that Lincecum can turn it around.

FOOTBALL

And finally, an important development in the shooting in Alabama.  This weekend, a man opened fire on a house party that left 3 people dead, including two former Auburn football players.  There has been a manhunt the past 3 days looking for the killer, and Tuesday, the killer turned himself in.  His name is Desmonte Lenard.  He turned himself in after his family sought the help of a defense attorney who advised that turning himself in was the best course of action.
